The crew get set up and start shooting cut aways. |
For the first shoot of the production we took a large sound
desk with us for Dan to monitor and adjust sound from and a large monitor for Kyle
to be able to assess the shots with a little distance from the action through
the camera, which were both set up in a small room just off the Mayor’s office.
This would also create more space in the office itself which whilst a large
room had little space for the full crew and equipment to move around due to the
furniture and its arrangement. In practice this setup was abandoned immediately
as the mixing desk didn’t work properly and Kyle felt more comfortable in the
room with the actors.

In the office itself we setup three
point lighting but this was compromised as in order to keep the back light out
of shot we had to place it beside the large dresser/desk which obscured a lot
of its light. We knew from the reccy that the Mayors office was quite an Imposing
room with all the photos of past mayors on the walls staring down at you and
chose to start the shoot with close ups of these as Icarus’s first view of the
room as he walked in.
Once Neil and Phil arrived (Dr. Watson and Icarus) the real
shoot began. Neil was on the ball from the word go and gave a very convincing
performance. Shooting went without a hitch and we packed and tidied up to leave
on schedule so as not to keep the staff who were working late and locked up the
building as we left.
